Casa Carranza

This house has been inhabited by generation after generation of the direct descendants of General Venustiano Carranza.

Within this building you will find a variety of valuable objects that belonged to the Carranza family. Currently, this house belongs to one of the granddaughters of Don Jesús Carranza, who led soldiers into Revolutionary battles that took place here.

Estación Candela

Candela’s train station is an essential stop for a selfie.

11 miles from the town, within the state of Nuevo León, is the Estación Candela, which takes its name from the old abandoned train station. This photogenic and peculiar station was built in 1919, by order of Venustiano Carranza. The style of architecture is predominantly medieval.

Cueva de los Murciélagos

Located on the Cerro Frentón, this is the perfect place to admire, in the late afternoon, the departure of the bats from the Cueva de los Murciélagos. This cave is home to three million of these flying mammals, and it takes around 45 minutes for all of them to fly out of it.

El Frentón is also regularly visited by those who love to climb and rappel.

Admire the El Carrizal Grutas

This is perfect for anyone who enjoys exploring new places, the caves are within the Cerro del Águila, where you will discover small lakes, an underground river, and a space containing stalactites and stalagmites.

Enjoy a Texan Rodeo

Candela is the national capital of bull riding, the Texan rodeo, which consists of riding and remaining on the back of a bucking and agitated unbroken bull. The rider must remain sitting for 8 seconds.

At every celebration in Candela, such as Semana Santa (Holy Week), the festivals of Santo Cristo de la Capilla, or the patron saint festivals, there will be the opportunity to witness the mastery of the people of Candela when it comes to this sport.

the Beauty of the
Presa Las Higueras

Spend a pleasant while in the Presa Las Higueras.

Before arriving in Candela, the river passes several beautiful spots, such as the Presa de las Higueras.

Thanks to its crystalline waters it’s used as a water park. You can also go horseback riding, explore the area on a bike or quadbike, or just go for a relaxing walk.

Biker Fest Candela

Biker Fest is an opportunity for guaranteed fun in Candela.

Hundreds of motorcyclists turn up at the Las Lajas Touristic Corridor in the Magical Town of Candela. Motorcyclists ride a circuit of almost 9 miles, from Las Lajas to the community of Valladares, and then back to the touristic corridor. The event is accompanied by folkloric shows, concerts and local food tastings.

Fiestas del Santo Cristo

On the first days of August the Santo Cristo Festival is celebrated. Don’t miss it.

On the first days of August the Santo Cristo Chapel Festival takes place. Year after year this festival brings people together, not just from Candela but from other municipalities, who spend a few days in this Magical Town.

As a part of the celebrations there is a traditional horse riding event, the Tradicional Cabalgata, the Gran Matlachinada (a traditional dance) and a Gran Baile (Great Dance), accompanied by banda music.

Cultural events and dances are organized around the festival of Santo Cristo. Make sure to visit the Corredor Turístico.

Semana Santa en Candela

Visiting Candela during Semana Santa (Holy Week) is a good idea because of the festivities that take place here.

Combined with the religious celebrations, there is a Cabalgata Carrancista  (horse riding event) which departs from the Ejido San Pedro. Besides, there are races, a carnival, callejoneadas (journeys through the city on foot with music and drinks), and a variety of concerts in the square in front of the church dedicated to San Carlos Borromeo.

During Holy Week, they also celebrate the anniversary of the founding of Candela, resulting in a very joyful and festive atmosphere.
