Its proximity to Mexico City and a perfect climate make this one of the top destinations for enjoying water-themed activities. But that’s not all. Its church, streets, and surrounding areas offer fascinating sights for those who explore them. Come, and you’ll fall in love, too.

  1. A family fun day at the waterparks.
  2. Shopping for clay or wood handicrafts.
  3. Swimming in the hot springs and relaxing with a massage.

Take a stroll around the Jardín Central.

Balneario Municipal
de Ixtapan de la Sal

Soak in the hydromassage pools and enjoy the waters at night at the municipal waterpark. The experience starts at 8 p.m. and continues until 2 a.m., Fridays and Saturdays.

Glorieta de la Diana

You’ll like seeing this replica of Diana the Huntress on Arturo San Román Boulevard.

While you’re here, check out the Ixtapan de la Sal Tourist Market across from the Diana.

Parroquia de la Asunción
y Jardín Central

Admire the architecture of the Parroquia de la Asunción. The atrium wall features a pinnacle design, while the tequitqui-style white facade and tower are impressive.

The Jardín Central is another spot you have to see. Walk around the main square’s lighted fountain and check out the gorgeous gazebo.

Shop for Handicrafts

Head to Los Naranjos (3 miles away), where you can purchase wood-carved handicrafts, particularly utilitarian and decorative items.

If you go to Tecomatepec (less than 3 miles away), you’ll find the famous wide-mouthed, spherical jugs for water or pulque. If you get the chance, talk to the artisans who will explain and demonstrate how they make them.

At the handicrafts market, you’ll find many bath articles and objects.

Play Golf

If you’re a golf lover, you can enjoy your favorite sport in the exclusive setting of Gran Reserva Ixtapan Country Club.

There’s an 18-hole professional golf course. It’s a par 72, 7,300-yard mixed course with 5 tee tables at each hole. As an essential design feature, it was created over the natural relief of the land, with all the natural hazards that entails.

Have a Spa Session

If you’re in need of a massage and spa session, Serenity Grand Spa (inside Hotel Misión San José) is what you’re looking for. Walk along Benito Juárez Avenue and treat yourself to a spa or massage.

If traveling with family, you’ll be interested in knowing that Spa Kids has treatments for the little ones.

Fiesta del Señor del Perdón

The Lord of Forgiveness, the image most revered by Ixtapan de la Sal’s faithful, has his feast day on the second Friday of Lent.

Celebrations begin with a novena attended by residents of Ixtapan and neighboring towns.

The town fair is held as part of the celebrations, with rides, culinary fairs, and fireworks.
