Tapalpa Read more Slide to the left to continue ◈ The perfect combination between natural beauty, architecture, calmness, and adrenaline could be a good way to describe Tapalpa, a place that has something for everyone. Anything you do is going to be enveloped in magic in high altitude towns, whose location puts them closer to heaven. . . ◆ Visiting the ruins of the first paper mill in Latin America. ◆ Taking a horseback ride through the woods. ◆ Paragliding over the valley. Climb one of Las Piedrotas, do rappel, and walk through the valley. ❖ El Valle de los Enigmas Look around this valley and see for yourself the mystery surrounding Las Piedrotas—the name given to the rocks that look like something out a fantasy tale. The enormous monoliths called Las Piedrotas may have been meteorites that fell to the valley millions of years ago. On some rocks you can see petroglyphs made by pre-Hispanic tribes. It’s said to be a very powerful energy center and attracts many visitors, especially during equinoxes. Here you can also do rock climbing and zip line. ❖ Main Square The church stands out from any angle. It’s built from bricks with absolutely no coating. Inside, the wood detailing stands out in both the altar and the floor. The Main Square or Plaza Principal is the setting where you’ll find the old Parroquia de San Antonio de Padua, built from stone over three centuries ago. Today, this parish church houses the Sacred Art Museum (Museo de Arte Sacro), with an interesting collection of religious antiquities. Across the way, one can’t help but spot the church devoted to the Virgin of Guadalupe. It was built under the initiative of the priest Cipriano González. It’s peculiar in style because it’s built from red brick without any coating. The contrast between the two is striking. ❖ Salto del Nogal Discover the region’s largest waterfall—the drop is impressive. Here you can do rappel. The drop is 344 feet, making it the tallest in the region. The thunderous sound of the water makes it a trip worth taking. You can also go mountain climbing, do rappel, or kayak. It’s also a launch point for paragliders, something not to be missed here at the home of the Paragliding World Cup. ❖ Find Adventure at Eko Park Tapalpa Have fun in nature with an enormous diversity of sports where adventure and learning go hand in hand. The park has adventure for any taste. The region’s surrounding natural areas mean you can rock climb, rappel, zipline, hike, camp or even sleep in a teocalli—a beehive or igloo-shaped room made of “superadobe”. Another option is the via ferrata in the mountains and crevices of the forest along the banks of the Tigre River. ❖ Have a Blast at Parque Aventuras La Ceja Experience maximum adrenaline with extreme sports at this adventure park and at the same time enjoy the natural beauty of the valley.
