Buy Silver

Every weekend there is a tianguis (market) in the center of town, which you won’t be able to resist.

Rings and bracelets, earrings, necklaces and brooches are piled up on every stall. Anything you can’t find there you will find it in any one of the town’s many jewelry stores.

The tianguis (market) is located right next to the bus station and spans several streets, including the main avenue called De Los Plateros, the Fundiciones street, and the Mora street.

Explore a mine

Recently discovered underneath the Hotel Posada de la Misión is a mine that was tapped before the arrival of the Spanish. The guided tours they offer are very thorough.

The tour lasts for around 40 minutes and includes a cultural performance as well as a mining cocktail, a drink prepared with mescal exclusive to Taxco.

Take a Ride in a Cable Car

The view of the city from within the cable car is well worth the trip. These cable cars go as high as 574 feet, whether you board up at the top, located inside the Hotel Montetaxco, or at its base, close to the Ex Hacienda del Chorrillo.

Jumil Day

On the first Monday of November, the people of Taxco go to Cerro del Huixteco in search of an insect that reproduces at the foot of the oaks. It is the jumil, it is eaten in sauce or roasted with salt and lemon.

National Silver Fair

Aiming to underscore the artisanal work that has brought the town so much fame, this fair takes place towards the end of November. The celebration includes exhibitions, conferences and a contest that goldsmiths and designers participate in with their best pieces.

Holy week in Taxco

The Magical Town of Taxco is the setting for one of Mexico’s most impressive Semana Santa (Holy Week) festivities; and seeing it up close is an experience you will never forget.

The Monday after Palm Sunday is when the silent processions take place, led by the beating drums and lit up with candles along the city’s roads and alleyways. On the evening of Good Friday, the various processions parade through the town, moving from one church to the next.
