Not only can you learn about the art of making cheese, you can also purchase a few bottles of fine wine. And don’t forget the paella!

The museum exhibition includes scale-models, photographs, replicas, and projections detailing the cheese-making process. This cheese and wine museum is also a place to learn about cheeses from around the world and how to use the senses to savor them.

The museum has a restaurant where you can try dishes made with the cheeses produced on site.

Mina de ópalo (Opal mine)

In the nearby town of La Trinidad, 7.5 miles south of Tequisquiapan, Don Héctor offers guided tours of the opal mine. Learn all about how this singular stone is mined, polished, and finished.

Downtown and monument

In 1916, President Venustiano Carranza declared Tequisquiapan the geographic center of the country. Check out the monument marking the occasion, located three blocks from the Plaza de Armas.

Air Balloon Flight

At dawn the conditions are perfect to get to know the surroundings of this Magical Town from above. Some operators offer interesting tastings, since the taste of the wine changes a bit with the altitude at which you drink it. They also offer packages that include a toast, breakfast, and flight certificate.

Head down the Wine and Cheese Route

Start this route for the senses at Viñedos La Redonda (8.7 miles on the Tequisquiapan-Ezequiel Montes road). You’ll feel like you’re in a movie as you sip your glass of wine while looking out over the vineyards or take part in a tasting of its Nosotros, La Redonda, Orlandi, Sierra Gorda, and Sierra Luna wines at the Trattoria Campestre restaurant. You can also watch how they make wine and ask the expert anything you want. Continue down the road to Finca Sala Vivé, which is famous for its Viña Doña Dolores and Sala Vivé sparkling wines. Check out Quesos Vai. At this dairy, you’ll learn about the animals and how they’re reared, the cheese making and aging process (in an underground cellar), and have the chance to do a tasting.

Take a stroll through Parque La Pila

Go for a walk through this park, which once used to supply water to the Hacienda Grande. Today, it’s an outdoor recreation area with lush cypress and juniper trees.

Cheese and wine fest

If you are a cheese and wine lover, you have to attend this event that takes place every year for three weeks in May and June, and is held in La Pila Park.

The fair is a festival of flavors where you have the opportunity to learn from experts in food and wine and get to know the different wineries of Tequisquiapan.

Some of the activities that are carried out are: tastings and pairing of cheeses and wine, tastings and workshops to make your own wine.

Festival 100 Vinos Mexicanos

In it, more than 60 important Mexican wine houses participate and you can taste around 600 different labels. This festival has a 100% family atmosphere, since it has cultural activities, shows and the sale of gourmet products.

It is the perfect place to taste wine with tastings and also has a bike-tour and a wine-bus to get to know the La Redonda Vineyard.

Fiestas de la Vendimia

Just 15 minutes from the center of Tequisquiapan, this multi-day celebration takes place during which it is possible to tour the vineyards and La Redonda facilities, taste the wine, learn about its production and make pairings, in addition to various shows. Sign up for the famous “grape treading”. It takes place in July.
